Submissions Guidelines
Submissions are open for Issue 2!!
Please use the submission form; do not send submissions via email.
Short stories:
- Erotic stories of Science Fiction, Horror, and/or Fantasy
- 1,000-8,000 words (FIRM. Shorter and longer stories will be rejected without consideration.)
- No reprints
- No simultaneous submissions
- Multiple submissions are allowed
Written submissions should be in .doc, .docx or .rtf format. Use a standard font like Times New Roman or Arial, in 12 pt. We prefer Standard Manuscript Format. Turnaround time for responses is a maximum of 90 days. If 90 days have passed and you haven’t gotten a response, send a query to littledeath@make-believable.com.
Please include a cover letter with your contact information and the word-count of your story.
What we’re looking for:
We want sensual stories that arouse, intrigue and push the boundaries of what defines “erotic”. We’ll consider stories of any sexual orientation – in fact, we are reserving at least one spot per issue for a queer-oriented story, to ensure they’re included. We’re also reserving one spot per issue for a UST story – that’s Unresolved Sexual Tension (because sometimes, we just want to be teased).
Most subject matter will be considered, but there are some things that are absolutely off-limits:
- Anything involving children
- Anything involving animals (this does not apply to anthropomorphs)
- Non-consensual. Characters playing at non-con is fine, but not the real thing.
- Anything which is illegal to write about where you live
Submissions which portray these subjects as part of the erotic aspect of the story will be automatically rejected. However, these subjects may be included as part of the plot of the story itself.
Also bear in mind: We are looking for erotic works of fiction – not porn. We want stories, not excuses for characters to rut. Graphic descriptions of sexual acts are acceptable, but if that’s all that’s in the story then it’s not what we’re looking for.
Artwork:
- Science Fiction and/or Fantasy artwork with erotic overtones
- Color or b&w
- No simultaneous submissions
- Multiple submissions are okay
Art submissions should be in .jpg or .png format. Turnaround time for responses is a maximum of 60 days. If 60 days have passed and you haven’t gotten a response, send a query to littledeath@make-believable.com.
What we’re looking for
The same basic rules for fiction apply for artwork: challenge our notions of what “erotic” means. All art submissions must have elements of Science Fiction and/or Fantasy as well as erotica.
Obviously given the subject matter some nudity is acceptable, but we’d prefer little to no actual genitalia visible. We want sensual, not pron – tease us, but don’t give us everything!
As with fiction, most subject matter will be considered in art submissions, but the same things are absolutely off-limits:
- Anything involving children
- Anything involving animals (this does not apply to anthropomorphs)
- Non-consensual. Characters playing at non-con is fine, but not the real thing.
- Anything which is illegal to illustrate or own pictures of where you live
Rights & Compensation:
The Little Death of Crossed Genres takes Exclusive World Electronic Rights for 1 year, and non-exclusive anthology rights (digital and print) for 3 years. We also require you to not publish the work in print until at least 3 months after our issue with the work is released.
Accepted submissions (fiction and art) will receive $10 USD plus free digital copies of the magazine. If we decide to include a submission in a yearly collection, the author will receive another $10 and free digital copies of the collection.
